As recruiters, we have an important part to play in increasing diversity in the creative communications industry.

Here’s a few of the things we’re doing…

Improving

All employees at Colour Recruitment are currently undertaking online courses on how to identify and reduce unconscious bias in the recruitment process.

Making Changes

  • As a result of our commitment to reducing unconscious bias we offer clients the option of receiving blind CVs where we remove the candidate’s name, any gendered pronouns and education.

  • Lots of PR roles get advertised in places like The Guardian. We don’t use any job boards so we remove any bias in the talent pool which may form as a result of where a role is advertised.

  • Pre-Covid we were always big advocates for flexible working and always encouraged clients to allow more flexibility in hours and location. As things return to normal, we’ll continue to champion flexible working hours and location amongst our clients.

  • In order to reduce pay inequality, we no longer share current salary with prospective employers as we find that can unintentionally “tether” underpaid (often senior women or BAME) candidates to the lower salary.

  • Though we don’t recruit for entry level roles, we fully support the great work that places like Taylor Bennett Foundation and People Like Us are doing.

Learning

We’re constantly learning and trying to find ways to improve our process to be more inclusive through feedback from our candidates and clients.
